"Yin” is the counter part of “Yang" energy. It derives from Traditional Chinese Medicine.
Yang is warm, active, expressive and outward. Yin is cool, quiet, receptive, nourishing and inward.
Winter is considered the deepest Yin season. Yin is the energy that helps us slow down, restore and replenish. It is the part of life that nourishes us at a deep level.
I am a very active person during the day and I benefit much from the dark, long nights and the stillness around me in the natural world, the snow and the stark, cold sky. It helps me to feed my inner life and access my imagination and softness. I drink my warm, ginger tea slowly and I sit at my little, electric fireplace in silence.
In class this week, we will focus on rebuilding our energy through adding in longer holds in our poses. We will allow the practice to move us more inward and downward. We will nourish the spaces between actions in Tadasana.
Much love,
Marielle
