Ice Breaker

ree
I took this picture at the edge of Picnic point at lake Mendota. The ice, like broken glass all chattered around, was a fascinating sight to me.
An "ice breaker” is a tool to help us feel more comfortable with each other and it creates an entrance to interact more deeply.
An ice breaker in Yoga is the practice that brings us more into our body, and helps release tension, self consciousness or mental patterns. The ice is our physical stiffness, our mental distractions or our emotional guardedness.
We “break the ice” by creating ease and presence and trust within ourselves. This helps us to arrive, soften and open. As the body warms, tension can drop away and we can set our expectations aside and settle into our own rhythm, allowing the practice to feel accessible and supportive.
Since the Holidays are just around the corner, I would like to offer down-regulating self care in our practice, with nourishing twists, gentle forward bends, diaphragmatic breathing and longer holds.
Much love,
Marielle
