Chronic tension in the neck is a common problem in our Western society. And stretching our necks does not really solve it.
Encountering a tight neck is often a symptom of tension traveling up from the lower body.
To address the cause of this tension, we will explore two technics: 1. The three floors in the body: The soles of our feet, our pelvic floor and our diaphragm. When these “floors” are weak or contracted, we don’t have good suspension when we move and this fact puts stress on the neck. We will work on bringing strength and slide and glide back. 2. Our structural alignment: when our spine is in it’s natural state, we hold our ribcage and our skull right over our pelvis. In all our poses we will find the Coronal plane: our ears, shoulders, hips and the side of our knees are stacked. And the Sagittal plane: our nose, sternum and belly button are in the same line. Please bring a tennis ball to the class. Much love, Marielle "The man who moves a mountain begins by carrying away small stones.” -Confucius.
