Today it is estimated that the Sacroiliac Joint is responsible for 15 percent to 30 percent of the lower back pain cases.
Yet not many of us know how to keep these joints healthy and vibrant.
The SI joints ( Sacroiliac Joints ) are located between the iliac bones (“the wings” of the pelvis) and the sacrum.
They connect the spine to the hips. From the back the SI joints are located below the waist where two dimples are visible.
Function:
The two joints provide stability.
They play a major role in absorbing impact when walking and lifting.
They assist forward/back bending.
In our Yoga class we will find space and support for these essential joints.
We will practice keeping our pelvis and lower spine stable and broad in all our poses.
And develop muscle memory to avoid compressing them.
Be well,
Marielle
