brain and immune system

Until recently, Western medicine remained skeptical of claims that body-mind technics like Yoga could enhance immune function because there was no known connection between the nervous system and the immune system.

Now we know that there is a network of nerves that links the central nervous system with the immune system.

Key elements for this connection are:

-Bone marrow.

-Thymus Gland.

-Spleen.

-Lymph nodes.

-Blood vessels.

There is also a biochemical link between the brain and the immune system.

The brain directs the immune response by releasing neurons transmitters that deliver messages to the immune system. This goes both ways: the immune cells release chemicals that feed back to the brain.

Yoga and meditation can facilitate and fine-tune the inner dialogue between body and mind and therefor enhance immune function.

In class tonight we will practice Prana Yama ( Breathing exercises ) and down-regulating twists.
