Upside down

Yoga poses that turn your body up side down?

For some of you it might feel good, reminding you of when you were a child hanging head down from the monkey bars.

Others might answer; "Why bother?"

The ancient Yogi’s have been very positive about inversions for a long time.

The benefits of hanging upside down on a physical and mental/emotional level are incredible.

The physical health benefits:

- Reversing the flow of gravity through the tissue helps tone the tissue. A good face-lift!

-When the organs hang upside down, sediments and toxins that settled in on the bottom can bubble up to the surface and be taken out of the body.

-Often the veins of our legs are filled with stale blood and can be refreshed by reversing the blood flow.

-The weight of the organs resting against the diaphragm muscle, makes for much deeper breathing, more oxygen means more vitality.

The mental/emotional health benefits:

-When our diaphragm is stuck, our mind is anxious and depressed. When the diaphragm muscle reverses, it releases and when it regains movement, the mind naturally settles into a calm and peaceful state.

-The inverted poses transform our relationship with gravity and especially after traumatic events, they act like a “reset” button.

In class today we will play with hanging upside down:

Forward bends, supported shoulder stand, down-dog and dolphin pose will be part of the Yoga flow.

Please have a YOGA BLOCK or a fat/bigger BOOK ready for the practice.

Much love,

Marielle
